The cranberry juice does not kill the infectious syndrome responsible for the urinary infection. Some people say that it increases the pH level of the urine and makes it all the more acidic so that the bacterium doesn't multiplies and gets killed eventually. In fact, cranberry restricts the sticking of Ecoli bacteria on the bladder walls. Hence, the bacterium gets evacuated from the urinary tract during the next urinary secretion. Moreover, the juice increases the frequency of urine secretion due to presence of diuretic ingredients.

Ideally, you should drink 24 ounces of cranberry juice in a day. You should make sure that you drink REAL juice that is a bit bitter and expensive but shows immediate effect. However, if you can't drink the unsweetened juice, then you can consume powdered cranberry that's available as pills or capsules. Moreover, cranberry is an amazing antioxidant that has appreciable vitamin E and vitamin K content. It also provides ample vitamin C nutrition to your body.

How to treat a urinary tract infection during pregnancy?

  • sfialkina asked on Thu, 28 Jul, 2011
My friend in Europe was told by her doctor to take medicine for urinary tract infection and, when I look at this medicine description in English, I see it is contraindicated during pregnancy. Doctor has tried to scare her into taking the medicine, saying such infection could very possibly go to her kidneys and cause terrible troubles. But if a medicine is worse than the disease, what can be done?! Please, if anyone knows effective and safe treatment for this ailment during pregnancy, do share! Thank you.

If you get a UTI during pregnancy, you need to go to your doctor, and take the antibiotics they prescribe you to clear it up. there really is no other way of getting rid of it. you can drink some cranberry juice to help. but that isn't going to take it away. the antibiotics won't hurt your baby. the doctor will prescribe some thing that is safe for use during pregnancy. woman get bladder/ UTI infections all the time during their pregnancy, and they take the medicine. the truth is, that its more dangerous to leave the infection untreated. believe me i know. i had a bladder infection once, and i didn't get it treated for a while, and then it spread to my kidneys, causing a bad kidney infection. it was so terrible. i got so sick. had a severely high fever. I went to the er, and i had to be hospitalized for a couple days. your friend shouldn't put her baby at risk. if she leaves this untreated and it spreads to her kidneys, which it most likely will, then it could risk hurting her baby. tell her to listen to her doctor. good luck.
